Lyrics and Melody of the Karelo-Finnish SSR Anthem

The Lyrics

The lyrics of the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic were written by Armas Aïkïa, a Finnish poet and communist politician who lived in Russia and Finland during several years. He created the lyrics based on a series of instructions given by the Working Commission created by the Government of the KFSSR in order to create the State Anthem of Soviet Karelia. His work started after a letter was sent to him by the Secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Karelo-Finnish SSR, T. F. Vakulkin. Sources also indicate that Ulyas Vikström and Otto Kuusinen could have also participated in the writing of the lyrics and the translation into the Russian language. However, this is yet to be confirmed.

Lyrics:

Oma Karjalais-suomalaiskansamme maa,
Armas Aïkïa

Vapaa Pohjolan Neuvostojen tasavalta.
Kotimetsäimme kauneus öin kajastaa
Revontultemme taivaalta leimuavalta.

Chorus:
Neuvostoliitto on voittamaton,
Se kansamme suur-isänmaa ijät on.
Sen Tienä on Kansojen Kunniantie,
Se Karjalan Kansankin voittoihin vie.

Isänmaa Kalevan, kotimaa runojen,
Jota Leninin Stalinin lippu johtaa.
Yli kansamme uutteran onnellisen
Valo kansojen veljeystähdestä hohtaa.

Chorus

Kotimaamme loi uudeksi kansamme työ,
Tätä maata me puollamme kuin isät ammoin.
Sotasuksemme suihkavat kalpamme lyö.
Asemahdilla suojaamme Neuvosto-Sammon.

Chorus

Melody

Currently, the National Library of the Republic of Karelia holds original scores for the melodies that Karl Rautio and Ruvim Pergament created for the competition. However, due to legal reasons, the access to the full documents is only available within the walls of the building of the library and only the first page is available as a preview. Nevertheless, we are trying to get in contact with it to see if there is a possibility to view the full document via online. As stated in the previous article, there were several other musical composition submitted to the Working Commission of the Government of the Karelo-Finnish SSR. However, no other documents have been found about the melodies of such compositions.

Instrumental and Vocal Versions

Due to the fact that the anthem was never adopted by Karelo-Finnish Authorities, there are not vocal or instrumental versions available like other Soviet Republic anthems. However, four post-Soviet versions are available on the internet.

The first one is the only vocal version was made by YouTube user KingWorld30 using the voice synthesizer software Vocaloid.

The second one is a new instrumental version made by other YouTube user called GETchan (these two users are members of the "Ștefan Neaga Commission").

The third one is a recording made in MIDI format by an unknown person on the 2000s.

The last one is a vocal recording Rautio's version made by YouTube user "Der Klaviermusiker" using Getchan's instrumental version

Regarding Pergament's anthem, just one post-Soviet version has been created. This is a recording of the first notes of Pergament's Anthem made by KingWorld30.
