FIFA and National Anthems

Image
The 90 Seconds Rule One of the most special moments of an international football match between national teams happens before the match itself! The national anthems ceremony is a special moment where fans from both teams give their best to sing their anthem and inspire their players with a sentiment of pride and bravery. We have seen this many times in recent world cups. However, there is something very sad that has been happening since several years… Source: Flickr (warrenski) FIFA and its pre-match protocols state that the national anthem of each country cannot exceed the 90 seconds rule, and therefore many national anthems are cut off in the middle of the melody. This is something that happens specially with South American national anthems. The most famous cases are the national anthems of Chile, Brazil, and Colombia. This was specially noticed in the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup, where FIFA, unintentionally, created one of the most emotional and patriotic moments of the maximum footba

One last time for the day: Sign Off

Just one more video mom! Last week I posted a video called “DeroVolk Channel SIGN-OFF” and it looks like that it was a total success. The Online Cambridge Dictionary defines it as “ to stop doing your work or another activity for a period of time ”. On TV, it means that the station stops its operations until next morning. Sign-offs were widely used in the past when TV stations did not transmit 24 hours a day. However, until this day, there are still many stations that sign-off at night. The final screen of the Sign-Off video I have always, for some reason, liked this kind of stuff. Of course, you can find unique recordings of anthems in sign-offs, but there is also something special on them. That is why I decided to do my own. I must recognize that I had already done some sign-offs in the past both for DeroVolk or other projects, but they did not have the quality or perfection that I wanted. Maybe some old viewers of my channel will remember the original sign-off of DeroVolk! Bu

Waltzing Matilda, more than a song

Background...      Speaking about Australia is very special for me because my grandmother’s brother lived there many years, and when I was a kid, I always heard stories about that country. I even remember that he sent me a nice little cap with the Australian map and the name of the country on it. I really wonder if my grandparents still have it stored along with my family’s other belongings (of course, we could not bring all our stuff to Spain). But, in any case, we are here to talk about a wonderful song that Australia gave to the world: Waltzing Matilda. Source: Wallpaperflare (Sergio Morales) The song, which many people consider that has the same status (or even an unofficial higher status) that the Australian national anthem, was written by Andrew Barton Paterson in 1895. The melody that Barton chose for his song was taken from a musical composition created by James Barr which is nowadays known as “The Craigielee”. If you are a non-English speaker, or even someone from the US or

Recommended editing software

What I use... One of the many things that people has asked me during all these years if what editing software I use. Well, although I have replied to many comments, I cannot answer them all. So, this is a good opportunity to share with you the programs that I use not only when I do DeroVolk videos, but also daily life projects. SONY VEGAS Source: Flickr (npslibrarian) This is the number one choice. It is very easy to use and has a user-friendly interface. It also has many options for video quality and video formats. If you are looking for a certain option, you will find it quickly because the menus do not have a lot of things like other editing software. I highly recommend get used to this program because it will be useful for you, even if you do not know anything about video editing and you are just starting. During college, this program saved me several times in marketing courses! ADOBE PREMIERE PRO Source: Piqsels If Sony Vegas is not enough for you, consider Premiere Pro. It is

Just a strange musical taste?

The Beginning... Since the dawn of our species man has been blessed with curiosity. This is something that I have embraced since I was a kid. I know that I and many others have spent nights reading articles on Wikipedia or other similar sites, watching videos and listening classical compositions. This is one of the reasons of why I got interested in this topic. Source: Pixabay By 2008 I had already listened to several national anthems for different reasons. For example, when I was in 3 rd grade, they taught us “La Marsellaise” in my French class of my school in Chile. Then I came to Spain for the first time in 2007, and I listened to the well-known “Marcha Real” (which is already a meme in my channel). I had listened those anthems, but I was not interested in that topic. That changed in 2008 when I was watching YouTube videos and one of them got my attention. It was a Soviet Parade video and on one part of it the Soviet National Anthem was played by the Red Army Band. It got my atte
